hmmm
Did the Russian mob take over Interplay or something? Sounds like a nice scam they got going. Maybe they just have the mob as consultants

$75M to make a game? That's kinda... off. I good 1/3-1/2 of the game should already be done (the concept phase) before more than a few $K ever get spent. I'd have to see a serious business plan for this one before I would ever invest in this (were I an investor).

And yeah, given the management's track record, their reduction to design and not management would have to happen before dime one was forthcoming.

Seems to me, you should be able to turn this into an MMO for under $10M, assuming you hired some talent, and not just a bunch of paycheck drawers.

If it's a work of love, it can be done regardless of budget. If it's a run at making money, well in my experience the budget inflates proportionate to the greed of those doing it.

I have to agree, liscence this and make money that way, instead of bloating a budget, and producing vaporware that will disappear faster than the stock values...

Honestly, I found Oblivion a huge step back from Morrowind.

The MMO is doomed already, but I wouldn't question $30 million for marketing. It would take that kind of money to push the Fallout IP as far as it could go, and to contend with the leaders of the genre.

Heh, sorry about that. I've been crazy busy with a lot of stuff and on the road for the majority of the last nine weeks or so. I haven't even had the chance to start Christmas shopping (ugh). I'm catching a plane in a few hours to head back home (finally). I might write a little more at the airport...so much good fodder out there. Like the Firefly MMORPG deal with multiverse. Sigh...who makes these stupid decisions?

Anyway, I'll be picking up the pace on blogging again. Lots to say : P

"If the guy(s) at Interplay were smart, they would have licensed the Fallout MMORPG to someone that could make a real go at it and do it well. Like Bethesda (look at how badass Oblivion was…even if it was single player, they have shown their skill at the genre)"

Well bethesda is already doing a single player Fallout game (yay)

Oh as for the whole post I agree with you on ever aspect. I saw the first story and knew this was a doomed idea from the start.

On a different note good to see you post something was getting worried :D
