I’m currently playing in the Beta Stress Test this week-end, and so far I like the look and feel and pace. I might actually give it a try and pre-order.

If I do, it’ll be the 9.99$ a month. I pay a yearly subscription with EVE already and I don’t see myself investing most of my precious gaming time in a new MMO.

Might be for the change of scenery and the aura of the setting.

If I do I’ll let you know.

Knowing I could be paying 10.00 instead of 15.00 is a deal killer unless the game is really good and I had to take a break from it. Lots of mmogs and other non mmog games are hitting desktops this year. I already have a huge backlog to play through so I would rather spend 250 on other various games to increase my library than one mmog I’d end up playing a few hours here and there.

Has the nda been lifted yet?

Ditto. Either I pay $250 to start and have a lifetime subscription or I never play, and right now I don’t know why I would pay $250.

My guess? WoW:BC.
I pity da’ fool that is scheduled to release a fantasy MMORPG in Q1/Q2 (*hrm* EVERYONE *hrm*). Though April 24th may be a good date for picking up subs from people who went back to WoW to play BC, realized it hadn’t changed, and go on looking for something new to play.
And seeing how it seems LOTRO isn’t anything new either, July 24th may be a good date to launch Warhammer, or Conan, or something. ;)

Normal monthly fee is $14.99. If you cancel your $9.99 per month account and then later decide to renew you have to pay $14.99 per month.

Honestly, this pre-order is something that will make me choose to play or not right up front. I can’t see myself buying the game later and having to pay the full monthly fee, knowing I could have been paying $9.99 per month. I’m starting to lean towards never playing this game now. Huh.

Do we have the normal monthly cost? It was not in the FAQ. It would not be hard to work out the break-even points between normal cost, pre-order $10/month, and pre-order lifetime, although you will need to assume that you know now whether you will want to be playing in two years. If you know that you will want to play at least 20 months of the game ever, then the pre-order lifetime subscription is not a bad deal for you.

Well, ‘lifetime’ depends on the lifespan of the thing… like, a fly, or a tortoise?

Looking in my magic 8-ball, I suspect the lifespan to be on the order of…field mouse. Just a hunch.

Well at least gives value to eBay an account for the price of a lifetime membership :P

From what I’ve heard the beta is not horrible, but it is nothing ground breaking. It isn’t super high epic fantasy like the actual LotR books, but it supposedly does a good job of letting you play around in Middle Earth.

IMHO the game sounded better when it was Middle Earth Online and lost major geek cred when it changed to a mile-long LotR name.
