Casualties of War in LotRO

Last night was the second round of a new project we are starting within the Casualties of War guild. We have formed two small static groups that play Lord of the Rings Online. This is not an “official” guild supported game as of yet, but if enough people become interested it may. The group I am in plays on Tuesday nights on the Landroval server. The other group plays on Sunday nights.

Players (level at the end of the night): Syrna- Guardian (me) (13), Eostemir- Champion (13), Fairley- Warden (13), Cirwyn- Loremaster (16) and Fargin- Hunter (13)

Finished thru: Book 1, Chapter 10.

We ran around and did a few quests while waiting for everyone to arrive and once we felt there would be no more coming we started on Book 1. We gathered around a fellow named Strider to begin the quest line. He told us to run around a lot and some of us seemed to make running look easy. Smoking a pipe *and* running, that’s how the big folk do it. All the running led to a joke at the expense of the Hobbits.

FIGHTING! It’s not running.

It all led to Tom Bombadil’s house in the Old Forest. Who is inside? Well, I wonder.

I found out I can do the backstroke when swimming. Neat!

Next week we plan to do some questing to get a few levels before we continue the Book 1 quest line.

I own this little MMO gaming blog but I hardly ever write on it any more. I’m more of a bloglord or something. Thankfully I have several minions to keep things rolling along.

  1. I love that you guys started this up. I’m not alone when I say that I don’t have as much time to game as I used to and static groups are the perfect solution for busy people that want to stay plugged in to their favorite game and keep in touch with each other.

Honestly, some games lend themselves to this kind of play style: balanced static parties of friends: it’s almost how the game was meant to be played.

  2. Huh, potential fun. I didn’t know about the outing. Once I get the LOTRO urge again, I must see if the battle for Middle Earth still has Casualties.

  3. Decided to make a swoop back to lotro, never gave it much time on release – just a shame I can’t join you guys on the US but thanks for the trial key all the same Ethic.

I am getting a good vibe from how the main questline is guided through via the ‘Books’ & I’ll be covering my thoughts on how well this is done in a post soon – I hope.

  4. You’ll be happy to know that Fargin hit 14 right after the group broke up last night, and got his hunter run-buff.

    That’s “run-buff”, not “buff-run” by the way… =)

  5. the sunday night group made it all the way to the last encounter in the great barrow, was great fun but we were a little low to finish this part of the book …. until next sunday anyway
