I’ve never needed anyone’s help to become “invested” in helping NPCs. If I didn’t do that, I probably wouldn’t have lasted a week in MMOs.

All these game-mechanics devices like escorting and protecting often put me off, since I don’t react well to being directed. Just have the NPCs busily going about their own business and my imagination will do all the investing that’s needed.

Yes you will find more moments like this scattered in book 9. The moment in a later chapter where the Dwarf surprises the elves with … well I’ll let you find out ;) … had me all choked up.

I failed the first time cuz I followed him instead of taking the shortcut. I think this part is very fun and definitely belongs in the game. Thanks for mentioning it Ravious.

This was indeed one of my favorite parts of this chapter. However, the Drownholt in this scenario looks very different from the one you get to see in the Mirkwood. I guess it was a very early design and was kept because it was so awesome.

I wonder if Bioware also realized this. Prototypical Heroes are usually doing their heroic deeds all alone, maybe with a minor buddy as sidekick, but not with 40-25-10-6 other guys. You know, Achilles, Beowulf etc. just have their warriors with them so that they can watch them do heroic things. ;)

Yeah, I was wondering about that. I had hoped that they would have been like “Mazog checks to see if you are a Hunter/Warden and puts some extra gas in to it.” Oh well.

For a slower class, it caught me off guard enough.

If you are a class with a run speed buff (say, Hunter or Warden), that bit is pretty anti-climactic. A race? I win. My next-highest alt is a Minstrel, and I am wondering if his little sprint will be enough to trivialize it.
