Migration Day

[Asheron’s Call 2] I was finally prompted to migrate my billing from Microsoft to Turbine last night. What a relief. It is my opinion that Microsoft held down both of the Asheron’s Call games, keeping them from being the best they could have been. AC2 is really going through an upturn in quality design decisions, but I wonder if anyone will come back. The expansion pack coming soon is adding a lot to the game, but is it enough to tempt many people to give it another try (or try it for the first time)?

I also joined the Beta Rewards Program, so bring on those MEO and DDO betas!

The Drudge Report

It looks like there is a new race you can play in the upcoming Asheron’s Call 2: Legions expansion pack. No, it’s not the already announced Empyreans, but it appears to be a Drudge – complete with board and nail.

Seems it is only for people that pre-order the expansion pack.

UPDATE: At a later date, a quest to unlock the Drudge race will be available for those that do not pre-order, but this quest will have a pretty high level-requirement (60-ish).

Asheron’s Call 2: Legions

Asheron’s Call 2 has finally announced the first Expansion Pack for the game.

The expansion pack will ship with the original game code, all 20 previously released content updates, as well as additional content and a new storyline.

Turbine says of the expansion pack: “Players will aid the ancient race of Empyreans through a classic tale of mystery and discovery. Centuries before the time of Legions the Empyreans were ushered far away from Dereth for their own preservation. Now these once mighty sorcerers return to rediscover their lost purpose–and their immense powers–as dark evils unite to keep the Empyreans’ history lost for ever.”

The primary features contained in the expansion pack are a new playable race (“the mystical Empyreans, a long lost race of suspicious magic users cast out of Dereth”), new lands in the form of the lost continent of Knorr, and a new hero system that emphasizes player bonding to enhance fighting skills.

This pack will be released in March of 2005, which has prompted some players to cancel their accounts until then. What impact will WoW and EQ2 have on AC2 ever getting back out of the pit? Time will tell. Also, the new playable race looks a lot like the “humans” already in the game. Hmm.
