You know you’ve been reading too much TV tropes when your mind immediately takes that out of context and uses the -other- meaning of “shipping.”
That is also a great feature to have. Look what it’s done for Twilight‘s sales.
Didn’t Harry Potter really get that going first? Hell, I’d never heard of “shipping” before the glut of HP fan fiction, podcasts and websites.
AFAIK, the word originated in X-Files fandom as a designation for those more interested in “relationshipping” Mulder and Scully than the actual plot of the series.
