I have been playing Guild Wars tonight and took some screenshots. I am just amazed at the beauty of this game. I’m going to buy it just for that. I don’t care if it’s fun or not, I just spent a whole evening staring at this small village and waterfalls.
Damn nice work.
Hmm nice, but after looking at those I’ve finally developed a dislike for the over use of bloom filters.
That may be the result of my processing the images from the raw screenshots, not sure. They certainly look more “blurry” than the originals.
Or else I have no idea what a bloom filter is.
The point is that all that graphic is really fluff. 95% of what is rendered has zero value in the gameplay. You can stare at large scenarios where you’ll never be able to go and most of the levels are just corridors. You move on rails.
This means that gameplay-wise you are like in a small dungeon but with the walls decorated as if you are immersed in an open space.
All illusion.
Good artists but horrible usage of their talent.
Btw, the “bloom” is a filter applied by the client. Both while you play and in the screenshots. It makes the color more brilliant, enhances the light and smoothens the transitions. The side effect is that the colors look more blurred with the most bright producing halos.

That may be true, but it sure is pretty and I have found a lot of enjoyment out of that part of the game (so far). The actual combat and such is not really up my alley, but I can see getting my money’s worth out of the game rather quickly. If there *was* a monthly fee, I would be much less interested.
