Denver Trip

ALA Midwinter 2009 Any recommendations? Warnings? Sadly, there will not be a gaming conference immediately after this one. Also, I am missing City of Heroes double xp weekend, but don’t let that stop you from enjoying it.

    1. If you like beer, you’ve landed in heaven. Try as much of it as you can.
    2. If the conference is close to downtown, you’ll have easy access to a lot of restaurants. Vesta’s Dipping Grill (reservations are recommended) is always consistently good.
    3. If you’re bored, Channel Massive would be happy to give you a tour of the numerous back alleys, local bars, and other creepy places of our fine city for a small fee of elventy-billion quid.
    4. Stay away from Colfax Ave. The freaks come out at night.

  2. Hey, if there are enough of us Denverites around, lets schedule something. Zubon can get our emails from the posts here.

Looks like you’ll be at the convention center, which is right downtown. Lodo is a hopping evening place, and yeah, there are a TON of good restaurants – check out for the downtown/lodo locations. Vesta is a great choice, so is Jax, 9th door, Bistro Vendome, Tomayo… also the Chop House (which is a Rock Bottom owned place, but have their own beers). Brewpubs are pretty numerous (Breckenridge right near the ballpark is good, good food too, the Wynkoop (previously owned by our mayor!) is also excellent.)

If you’ve got the time, and the money, Skiing/snowboarding is always good, especially with the warm weather we’ve had all week. Even if you’re not into that, going up that way provides lots of fun.

  3. The weather here can change from one extreme to another fairly quickly. So make sure you bring a heavy jacket for those times when the temp dips below freezing. I see the other posters have you covered for the nightlife, if you like a great breakfast try Davies Chuck Wagon for thier $4.95 Steak and eggs.

  4. If you like bookstores, you should check out the Tattered Cover. Best bookstore I’ve ever been in. There’s one downtown (the best one), and another one that’s a bit of a drive that’s built inside an old theater.

  5. My wife (library tech) would hurt me if I didn’t mention that while you are at the conference you should check out Unshelved’s table if you are in need of a laugh.

  6. Thank you for the recommendations. I am sorry that I did not get to use more of them, what with the conference and sleeping. Carrying boxes of books is tiring when you are not used to the altitude.
