Plugging in a USB drive the right way on the first try feels like an accomplishment. There are only two ways to do it, but it feels like I am scoring below 50%.
Part of the problem is when it takes three tries. I try to plug in the drive, flip it over, try to plug in the drive, and flip it back over. I had it right the first time, I was just a couple millimeters off where I needed to be.
Other times I realize that is not a USB slot.

You heard the new MacBook and Chromebook Pixel has USB C, where the plug is bilaterally symmetrical? It can do power, video, and regular USB stuff in a single port/cable. The future, it is bright and shiny.
Where you’re going wrong is in assuming there are only 2 ways to insert a USB plug. Some USB plugs are in a superposition of orientations, and the waveform only collapses on the second attempt at insertion, and always collapses such that it’s the wrong way up.
