Are Things Still Extreme?

I don’t see much advertising these days. Not too many years ago, everything was EXTREEEME!!!, particularly beverages, tortilla chips, and sporting events, but not to neglect cartoons (NSFW), programming, or golf. Or is it all boobs these days?

Be extreme discretely, my lord.

  1. I’m pretty sure that the whole “EXTREEEME!!1!” thing from the late 90’s / early 00’s was just marketing creeps trying to cash in on the popularity of skateboarding / rollerblading / BMX / etc, since some other marketing creep decided those sports should be called “extreme sports”.

These days it seems like everyone is marketing to health-conscious middle aged women who care about the environment. Green this, Life that, Balance Wellness Fair Trade Organic blahblahblah.

I liked the old days better, myself.

    1. Frankly no-one is that health-conscious if they listen to anyone saying “wellness”. That’s usually a word associate with BS and alternative medicine. And you’d have an easier time of things if you were health-conscious, and the world would be a better place if more people cared about the environment and fair trade (the worth of organic stuff varies).

Oh sorry, I forgot that males 18-35 are the only target of games and that all of you in that demographic are invincible. Carry on.

  2. This coming decade will see the rise of Extreme Organic Free Range Chickens.

I hear Weyland-Yutani is working on it.

  3. The marketing for Mass Effect 1 focused heavily on how “extreme” Commander Shepard was.

That may have something to do with a scene I wrote in ME2.
