I just wanted to put a quick preview of what we can expect next week when Book 10: The City of Kings goes live on August 20th.  My first impression of this feature list is, ‘How in the hell did they put all of that together in the two months since Shores of Evendim?!?’
Not only that, but they have promised the third installment in their content update schedule, Book 11, will be released in October and will in include the much awaited Player Housing.
Detailed update notes pulled from the test realm, Roheryn, after the jump.

Is there any circumstance that makes it even remotely acceptable for an MMO studio to bring its servers down for two full days?
Blizzard has announced a two day maintenance on select realms, with other servers to undergo similar downtimes in the future.
File this under, “WTF were they thinking?”

In my last post I tentatively compared Blizzard’s announcement of The Wrath of the Lich King, their second expansion, to the post-Velious decline of EverQuest.  Some may smirk and point out that Verant and SOE would have killed for the success of the WoW machine, or that EverQuest running in its eighth year, is hardly dead and far from a failed development model, and those people would be correct and wrong in the same breath…

I have been in a state of disbelief all weekend…  The rumors of Blizzard’s newest expansion to World of Warcraft were indeed accurate, down to the last bullet point.  Northrend (but we all saw that coming a mile a way), levels 70-80 with new talents and spells, new zones, raised skill cap and…
Wait… ONE new hero-class? ONE profession addition, and no new races!?
Not a single new quest or content addition sub level 70!?!

My wife bought The Last Unicorn for our two year old daughter yesterday, and I watched it again last night after nearly fifteen years.  It is most definitely created for a young audience, but it was one of my first experiences with the fantasy genre close to a quarter of a century ago, and still holds a dear place in my heart. If you have children, buy it and watch it with them. You and they will not be disappointed, and you will be fostering the MMO players of tomorrow. We got our copy for $1.89 in the discount bin. What a steal!  My daughter awoke this morning, clammoring for more with cries of, “Daddy, watch corn?”

My wife and I are really, really enjoying this game.  However, I have reached that point in every steamy new MMO relationship, where I start to Google information, re-read old reviews, and generally preview whats in store for us around the next level or the next 10-20 levels.
What I’ve read, scares me a little…

So we played quite a bit this weekend. I have to say I am enjoying the fundamentals of the game, questing, crafting, exploring etc..

My wife and I have decided to cancel World of Warcraft, and head for a new virtual world.
You might think we have grown bored, or are tired of the grind, or find the endgame unsatisfying, but in the end you’d be wrong about our reasons. So why are we leaving Azeroth?
The conundrum is that we like the game TOO much…

After a very brief stint guild-less, Abryn and I joined up with a newly formed raid guild, comprised of some old friends, and individuals representing most of the uber guilds of our server’s history. Focus was formed with two objectives; to have fun, and push the bleeding edge of progression raid content.
The question is, is it really possible to accomplish both?

Anyone familiar with MMOs and World of Warcraft in particular is well aware of the prevalence of drama that tends to permeate the server forums, and guild politics. Until now, I have been a mildly amused observer, of this MMO and raid guild phenomenon.
I am an observer no longer…
