Anyone familiar with MMOs and World of Warcraft in particular is well aware of the prevalence of drama that tends to permeate the server forums, and guild politics. Until now, I have been a mildly amused observer, of this MMO and raid guild phenomenon.
I am an observer no longer…

Unfortunately, I didn’t work on the post I had planned for this weekend. Instead, I was playing WoW all weekend. Here’s an idea for discussion, however: One of the things that bugs me about MMORPG’s in general is how apparent the turns are. We interact in real-time, but there’s still a turn-based game going on underneath. Imagine, if you will, a more interactive WoW. What would it be like? How would combat be handled? How would PvP balance out?
I’ve been out of it for a bit, recovering from some surgery, which gave me an unrivaled chance for me to be a complete sponge and play a lot. Which I did, after watching a few seasons of Scrubs on DVD whilst the fogginess faded. My wife enjoyed pointing out the irony of that hourly. I’m playing CoV once in a while, trying to get my Mastermind up to 30 to see about the former No Man’s Land that used to be there, but more often I’ve been playing around with the new Daily Quests in WoW. And despite the fact I find grinding to be almost as much fun as lighting myself on fire, I’ve actually enjoyed them. Short enough, profitable enough, and easy enough. That’s the Cliff’s Notes version.

What’s this about a druid epic flight form? That’s hot.
Oh, and we can all learn to fly at level 14 over in City of Heroes. And everyone can get jet pack starting at level 6. But I’m sure your game is very nice, too. :)

My family took my Mom out for dinner on Mother’s Day. My Mom, my wife and our kids, my brother, my older sister and her kids and my younger sister with her son all gathered to celebrate motherhood in the best way possible – eating food and not making Mom cook or do dishes afterwards.
We met at a nice steakhouse and the meal was fantastic. The conversation was pleasant and typical. Until the nerd-fest broke loose.

This is actually compelling music, well done. Anyone remember when that Gregorian Chant CD was topping the charts? I am so old.

Since I already have one topic going about the changes to the most popular healers in WoW today, I thought I’d take a different angle to it – i.e. fix instead of nerf. The main reason Paladins (and Shammies and Druids to a lesser, more specific extent) are the main healers is they simply have a better healing tree. So I’m going to try my very amateur hand at redesigning the Holy and Disc trees. This will be a bumpy ride. More after the cut.

Another example of the ugly side of MMOs just occurred.
In World of Warcraft, a member of a guild is claiming his brother was one of the victims at Virginia Tech. He announced that he is taking over his brother’s character and that the one thing his brother wished for was to have a mount. Therefore, this “person” is asking for donations to buy one. Now, if true I certainly feel for him and his family. But why would you turn your grief into asking people for gold? Even if I believed him, I think that action is way out of line. I assume this guy is using a tragic event for a personal gain and it makes me sick. Worse yet, the guild is pooling funds for this guy. If I was in that guild, I’d be so out of there. But maybe that’s just me.

Here comes one of those opinion type pieces that always get me in trouble later. Of my limited WoW time however, it’s the one that comes up the most. Every night in guild chat, and present on every board I read. So I’ll give my feedback on it. After pondering words for a while, it seems it’d be easier to simply just type out the shortest ones and go with it. So here goes – buff priests.
Ah there we go. Half of you have already tuned out. I can hear your mental gears already shifting into defense mode. You’ve got a long drawn out, probably number filled reason why priests don’t need buffage. I’ve got another one, but it has no numbers involved. It’s like my original statement, short ‘n sweet – healing sucks.

It looks like the original link is gone (screencap in link above), so someone may or may not have raised faction with Booty Bay.
