Several sites that I visit have ads in flash or otherwise in motion. Colors, movement, look at me, whee!!!!!!!!!!! I get away from them as quickly as possible. I recently saw one of their usual ad spaces with a simple ad, black text on off-white background. I was so surprised and confused that I stopped to look at it.

Those of you who don’t read the comments miss the really exciting drama. Once a post goes past 50 comments, it is most likely a train wreck, and I’m sure it can see you through a dull Friday moment.
For the win, however, I recommend this Wikipedia discussion page. It relates to a recent xkcd comic about a made-up word and its equally made-up Wikipedia page. Antics ensued. And kept ensuing. And did not cease to ensue.

There are two ways blogs die. The most common is for the blogger to simply stop posting. Sure, the activity seemed fun for the first five or so times, but then it felt like work. There is another way. A darker way. It’s when the blogger has decided something important. Something that changes things. Suddenly the articles and stories the readers were used to become overshadowed by the other thing.Â
In our little arena, if a blogger merely switches games people will unsubscribe but the blog is not dying. One good example is when Syncaine at Hardcore Casual became a Darkfall crusader. Post after post was filled with Darkfall ambushes, tactics, and alliances. I did not unsub from the RSS feed because I love stories coming from sandbox-style MMOs and it is an excellent blog, but I am sure some people (read: WoW tourists, wink, wink) did. He has since come back around to providing healthy, acidic commentary on other games, but will those that unsub’d come back? That is the biggest determination I have to make when I unsubscribe from a blog. Do I ever want to come back?

I was curious about how the 100+ comment post affected our readership numbers. Yep, double the number of readers on Friday and over 1,000 unique views. I was surprised, however, that it is not winning on the month. Ravious’s latest Guild Wars 2 post is about 50% higher, despite only having 4 comments; his posts that are actually news consistently get a lot of hits. The winner, though, apart from the front page itself? “A Fable,” a year and a half old, but still periodically rocketing up our stats whenever it has a big day on StumbleUpon. “Game Developers and Porn Stars” also keeps getting hits, largely on the strength of search keywords. Sorry if you were one of the hundreds looking for “game porn,” “game porno,” “porn game,” “games porn,” or “porn games.”
This is also the first time I have not seen Ethic’s Asheron’s Call 2 closing ceremonies in the top 10. People may finally be emotionally moving on from AC2. I never did make that Lugian Tactician.

A friend of mine has dolls that she treats as children. They each have personalities, wardrobes, adventures, etc. She posts about them on the assorted social networking sites. I sometimes find this odd until I remind myself that we are doing the exact same thing, probably for more hours per day, only our dolls our imaginary, digital, and gated behind a monthly fee.
