WoW Abducted My Wife

wow[World of Warcraft] Seriously, she is crazy. She is playing when I am at work, this is not fair! She is leveling and I can’t keep up. She is making friends and has to stop to chat every time we go on a quest together. Level 21 already! I never made it past 29 (on two characters) in all the time I played solo. We hit 21 in just a few weeks without any troubles at all. I just finished proclaiming no interest in the expansion but that was before she heard about Blood Elves. Next thing I know she’ll be bringing home two boxes and installing them herself.

Two months ago, “take a World of Warcraft break” would have meant “get off the computer already”. Now it means “we should go to the basement and play WoW for a while”.

Resubscribe Now, Before Wait Times Get Worse!

From Tobold: Blizzard advertises activation server problems, to say nothing of the queues.

I’ll say one thing for WoW: players in City of Villains have no idea how to spell queue. When we prepare to cast Vengeance, no one seems to know whether to “cue” or “queue” the power, so almost everyone says “que.” I don’t think they’re Spanish.

Hunters Gone Wild

wow[World of Warcraft] Undermine has become a welcome home for our Night Elf Hunters. My wife spends her spare time greeting anyone and everyone, only to be ignored most of the time. But not always. Just recently she had another female Night Elf get mad at her for blowing a kiss to her boyfriend. Duel challenges arrived and my wife got a good laugh out of the whole thing.

Later on I introduced her to fishing and since she now has a big cat as a pet she needs to feed it and fish are perfect. She has taken to fishing and seems to really enjoy it, out-fishing me on a regular basis. While I was at work the other night, she found a guild for us to join. They were having a big party in Darnassus and she sort of wandered into the middle of it. Seems like a pretty big guild but I have yet to determine what type of guild it is exactly. Hopefully they are not a hard-core raiding guild.

We hit level 12 last night and are still having a lot of fun. We even have invited some solo players along whenever we see them near a quest area. The addition of pets has really made our hunter duo even more powerful. Now if I could just find a pet wolf somewhere (or else I’m going on a trip to grab The Rake).

Friday Wanderings

The wife and I are still playing World of Warcraft. We gave Everquest 2 a try, but she really did not care for it. She didn’t like the look of it and she hated all the extra clicks it seems NPC quest givers require. I’d almost say she hated the look of the game to be honest. We went back to WoW, but since I lost any interest in the queue on Doomhammer, we looked for a quieter server and landed on Undermine. We’ll see how long this lasts before we get a queue but so far so good. This time we both started a Night Elf Hunter. As a duo, we are just destroying everything in our path and we don’t even have pets yet.

Of the two beta tests I am in, one of them is collecting dust and the other one just keeps getting more and more enjoyable. Because of this, my time normally spent in EVE Online (which I was playing when the wife didn’t want to play) has dropped to nothing. I think it’s time to take a break from EVE for a while. Not sure if or when I’ll go back, but I’ve lost all desire to play it right now.

Lots of holiday family stuff coming up and also a family vacation, a trip to Disneyworld. Going to be busy for a while. Here’s hoping your holidays bring you lots of joy and good memories!

Blizzard Explains

Why unusable raid items were added:

I’m sure it’s easier to pass that judgement from your well-informed, armchair designing position. Because of the way in the whole expansion is being pushed out, the gap that we are currently in was expected to cause a number of issues. With so much content that is being pre-released, we are going to see a number of inconsistencies that will be resolved on release of the expansion. Plain fact is that this is about production schedules and not about you. This is needed for smooth production of the game, because when expansion hits and people are actually patching the rest of the content, we will have more pressing issues than going back to check some loot tables. This is about putting in order as much as we can as soon as we can, so when serious matters come down the road, we have as many resources available to address them quickly. Issues that, I assure you, will be more important than this. This isn’t about you. It’s about the game. Find something more worthwhile to complain about. This issue will not change until the expansion is released, so railing against me or anyone else on the boards is a categorical waste of your time.

Emphasis added. The thread linked with this has been deleted. If anyone can add some ameliorating context or demonstrate this was a fabricated quote, I will feel better and update.

Thank You Blizzard

[WoW] I have been reading a bit about the latest WoW patch. It makes CoH’s recent patches sting less. This is not schadenfreude, just a reminder that even the market leader is not doing any better. Introducing new bugs while rushing to implement nerfs and ignoring test server feedback is one thing (two things). Intentionally switching raid drops to items that no one could even theoretically use? Priceless.

When things gO Wrong

wow[World of Warcraft] Here’s a funny story.

Sundays are always a bad day for me. I pay bills on Sundays. Sunday is the last day of the weekend. I always get depressed on Sundays. I came up with a brilliant plan to, once again, attempt to play World of Warcraft with my wife on Sunday nights (I need a break from beta testing once and a while). It would give me something to look forward to. Since Guild Wars wasn’t doing it for her, and WoW did, it was an obvious solution. She was happy to go back and play more, she had fun in WoW.

BC Release Date (Mostly) Set – Jan 07

wow[World of Warcraft] Assuming you play the game, you probably already know this, but release date is set for sometime in January. I’m happy to be proven wrong in my assumption that they would go for the money. Assuming EBgames server ever comes back online, I’ll even buy a copy now. For those who can’t wait, there will be a 1.13 patch giving some of the BC content early, which should hold a few of the less-ravenous over. The guilds who had planned for a Nov release (such as some I read who had taken 3 weeks off at release time *boggle) probably aren’t pleased.

Speaking as a gamer though, I’d rather wait for a finished product. Official press release after the cut, should you desire.

Farm Status

wow[World of Warcraft] I was listening to one of the many WoW podcasts the other day and they mentioned putting different instances on “farm status”. I was pretty sure I knew what they were talking about, but I looked it up in the wikipedia. Here is what they have there:

Farming(instance)/on farm status:A statement used to refer to an instance that is frequently completed with ease and in little time such as “We are farming Molten Core” or “We have Blackwing Lair on farm status”.

Seriously, the gamers that are willing to continue playing games that don’t have enough content for them are basically making sure MMORPGs remain as crappy as they are. They could be so much more, but as long as a good majority of people seem to enjoy doing the same damn instance over and over again – we will be stuck here in the crappy MMORPG present. Why? Why is that fun? I don’t get it. I don’t mean to flame these people (my brother is one of them), but come on.

ROFL

Did anyone catch last night’s South Park episode: “Make Love, Not Warcraft”? I’m not going to spoil it for anyone or nitpick it, but anyone that plays MMOs and especially WoW should check their listings for a rerun. It is a great episode about WoW. I believe Blizzard helped with the episode as their logo is seen throughout the episode. A good portion of the episode is told machinema style using WoW graphics, although I think Blizzard tweaked it a little for them as they do things not seen in the regular game. I was playing with my camera when the show came on so I took some literal screen shots.
