Hunters Gone Wild

wow[World of Warcraft] Undermine has become a welcome home for our Night Elf Hunters. My wife spends her spare time greeting anyone and everyone, only to be ignored most of the time. But not always. Just recently she had another female Night Elf get mad at her for blowing a kiss to her boyfriend. Duel challenges arrived and my wife got a good laugh out of the whole thing.

Later on I introduced her to fishing and since she now has a big cat as a pet she needs to feed it and fish are perfect. She has taken to fishing and seems to really enjoy it, out-fishing me on a regular basis. While I was at work the other night, she found a guild for us to join. They were having a big party in Darnassus and she sort of wandered into the middle of it. Seems like a pretty big guild but I have yet to determine what type of guild it is exactly. Hopefully they are not a hard-core raiding guild.

We hit level 12 last night and are still having a lot of fun. We even have invited some solo players along whenever we see them near a quest area. The addition of pets has really made our hunter duo even more powerful. Now if I could just find a pet wolf somewhere (or else I’m going on a trip to grab The Rake).

Friday Wanderings

The wife and I are still playing World of Warcraft. We gave Everquest 2 a try, but she really did not care for it. She didn’t like the look of it and she hated all the extra clicks it seems NPC quest givers require. I’d almost say she hated the look of the game to be honest. We went back to WoW, but since I lost any interest in the queue on Doomhammer, we looked for a quieter server and landed on Undermine. We’ll see how long this lasts before we get a queue but so far so good. This time we both started a Night Elf Hunter. As a duo, we are just destroying everything in our path and we don’t even have pets yet.

Of the two beta tests I am in, one of them is collecting dust and the other one just keeps getting more and more enjoyable. Because of this, my time normally spent in EVE Online (which I was playing when the wife didn’t want to play) has dropped to nothing. I think it’s time to take a break from EVE for a while. Not sure if or when I’ll go back, but I’ve lost all desire to play it right now.

Lots of holiday family stuff coming up and also a family vacation, a trip to Disneyworld. Going to be busy for a while. Here’s hoping your holidays bring you lots of joy and good memories!

The End Of Steve

EVE[EVE Online] You may remember my post, bragging if you will, about the alliance I belong to producing the first Titan-class ship to the game (at least officially announced). Well now we can also claim to have had the first Titan (named Steve by the way) destroyed. Yeah, that kind of sucks.

The pilot, also the CEO of the alliance, was not at the controls when it happened. How that situation came about, there are many rumors. Only one person knows for sure and he said his computer crashed and could not get back online. No matter what happened, the Band of Brothers alliance found it and destroyed it. Well over 100 billion ISK gone. To make matters worse, the CEO was so upset by the whole event that he decided to step down from the alliance and maybe even the game. Can’t say that I blame him. The Titan cost more than most people in EVE will ever make in their whole time playing.

Firefly!?

Wired brings great news, Firefly is being made into an MMO. Could Kwip get what he wants? I hear the heavens rejoicing with good tidings.

But wait, what is that deep booming thunder? Is it a sign of impending doom? Alas poor me, my hopes of a good game are once again likely to be dashed against the rocks of despair.

I think the setting of Firefly is tremendous, but I really don’t see anything that impressive at Multiverse. Now if someone told me Joss Whedon was going to be involved, I would have hope.

Goldfarming By Trojan

I’ve been reading a couple of articles about a student named Wang Yue Si. It seems he was busted after earning 1.3 million dollars by selling World of Warcraft items.

The suggestion in these articles is that he could have used a virus (W32/HLLP.Philis.bq) that installs a trojan which would allow him to grab MMORPG passwords in order to steal characters, money and items. Even if it is not true in this case, it will happen sooner or later – mark my words. We had one machine here at work get this virus, so it is making it’s way around.

Be careful out there…

Ryzom Changes – UPDATED

[Ryzom] UPDATE: More developments. A group of former Nevrax employees are looking to raise funds in order to purchase Ryzom and make it open source. They are not actually taking donations at this time, in case the attempt to buy fails. So if you want to help contribute, go make a pledge.

Original post:

Interesting news here:

Nevrax (as a corporate entity) will be going into receivership next month. We emphasize again that the game will continue to run and be supported as this is not the beginning of the end – just the end of the beginning.

As you all, we love our game and we want to see Atys and its homins continue to evolve. We are not alone in this feeling as from the shadows a company has emerged and are currently preparing a plan to take on Ryzom. We can’t tell you more at the moment since it is being discussed but we will keep you informed when we get hard facts. We can assure you that much is happening behind the scenes.

When things gO Wrong

wow[World of Warcraft] Here’s a funny story.

Sundays are always a bad day for me. I pay bills on Sundays. Sunday is the last day of the weekend. I always get depressed on Sundays. I came up with a brilliant plan to, once again, attempt to play World of Warcraft with my wife on Sunday nights (I need a break from beta testing once and a while). It would give me something to look forward to. Since Guild Wars wasn’t doing it for her, and WoW did, it was an obvious solution. She was happy to go back and play more, she had fun in WoW.

No Posts For You – Not From Me Anyway

I was getting ready to take another forced break from all monthly-fee games and spend more time doing other things, like watching Battlestar Gallactica on DVD, when I opened my email to find another beta invitation. I’m interested in the development of this one, so I guess I’ll have nothing to say here for a while. I’ll continue playing Guild Wars, even when it tells me I’ve played for 2 hours and should take a break. I love that.

Zubon, you have the bridge.
