Return of the Janitor

EVE[EVE Online] I have mentioned before about the Important Storyline mission of “give the janitor a ride to his vacation spot.” Working for another corporation recently, I was again offered the chance to be a janitor’s taxi, a mission that strongly affected my standings with several empires. This is a janitor of some import. I realized, talking with him while we warped between systems, that the janitor is actually Chuck Norris.

As the greatest actor of our time might say, “Whoa.”

Work vs. Game

In-game, we do not have five-hour meetings. When we get a large group of people together for five hours, we are going to slaughter things by the thousand.

In-game, we do not spend the first half hour of our gathering engaging in a clever ice-breaker, to help get those creative juices flowing and put everyone in the right mental place for a free-wheeling discussion. We spend the first half-hour alt-tabbed, reading web pages while waiting for everyone to get to the right zone. We may also be discussing character builds or the latest test server notes on Teamspeak. (If anyone has a way for me to alt-tab from life during clever ice-breakers, please post it in the comments. No PDAs.)

War: What’s It Good For?

EVE[EVE Online] I have decided to join up with a corporation thanks to a good friend in EVE. Now I find myself on the verge of an all-out war. The alliance the corp belongs to is at war, so we are at war. I have not yet accepted the offer from the corp, I am still relatively safe.

A whole new portion of the game is opening before my eyes. How can I get out to the somewhat safe space controlled by my new corp? I could fly out as close as possible in Empire and then accept the offer – flying the final distance in a fast ship. Another option is that I could get an escort.

Stay Tuned

wow[World of Warcraft] I met a friend that I haven’t seen in a while for lunch today. He’s been playing WoW since Beta thanks to a friend at Blizzard that got him in. His guild has been around since then and is now the top guild in his PvP server. The man loves the game and talking to him about it can be frustrating at times since he has developed a bit of an ego about it. His server is currently lagging far behind my humble low population PvE server and I took the chance today to rip him about it a little. He sounded dejected the moment I brought it up and went on to explain how bad things have gotten on his server.

Ethic: Prisoner of the Amarr!

EVE[EVE Online] Tonight, in EVE Online, Ethic took a dangerous mission through Amarr space. The Amarr are a society of cruel slavelords, known to steal ponies from one-legged Caldari orphans and choke them, just to watch them die. There is reason to believe that Ethic has been taken captive, and an Amarr-programmed clone has replaced him.

If there are any odd posts here or hostile actions in EQ2, do not say that you have not been warned.

Trial of the Isle: Fighter

eq2[Everquest 2] Since I was still having video issues, I decided to switch to my second computer which has an FX5900 in it. Got the game copied over and fired it up. No problems at all, wonderful.

I chose a Kerran (which is like a tiger/human). The sonicvision ability in this race was used quite a bit this time, as it was night time. It made it very easy to spot the bad guys. This is the same vision as the Ratonga had.

FFXI: There and back again

ffxi [Final Fantasy XI] Well, I fired up my old FFXI account around Christmas. My old character was still saved because Playonline now saves characters for up to a year. I decided I’d probably never play that character again and I’d use it as a mule and sell all its stuff. The first thing I noticed in FFXI when I went to sell my stuff is the current economy “problem.” While some would argue that it’s not a problem, there is a large inflation going on. No one really knows the cause but some attribute it to mostly the holiday season and idiots. Regardless, a lot of items have increased in price, mainly the more rare items. While some say this is bad, others would say it’s not that big of a deal because a lot of other money making items have also gone up in price; however, some haven’t. Either way, inflation in FFXI never increases your current gil supply. Someone who could buy several rare items now can only buy a couple. You either had to realize an inflation was coming on and buy items before they got too pricey and then resell or your gil is now not worth as much as it used to be.

Trial of the Isle: Priest

eq2[Everquest 2] These impressions that I am getting of the classes are not really fair, as I assume the first 6 levels are not the defining levels for the class, but given that assumption – I will continue my observations and opinions.

Going back to the scout for a minute, I’m really bummed that the trial did not get me into any of the rogue type of abilities, but then I realized it is a scout and not a rogue at this time. Understanding that, perhaps I did not give scout a fair chance. The ability to track things was actually very cool (pull down menu shows things in the area, select one and a pathway appears before you) and I look forward to trying the class again in the next update.

Trial of the Isle: Scout

eq2[Everquest 2] I had to restart my scout as I just could not stand the high elf character model. I rerolled as a Ratonga, which is a rat-type of small humanoid character.

Ratongas have sonic vision. I did not really see any benefit to this, but I only tried it a little bit. Not sure how that is supposed to work. I’m curious to understand the point of these skills.

I had a lot of graphics problems, locking up on various occasions. Rolling back my drivers helped with that, but as a side effect I lost the red text outline on mob names which designates they will attack if you get near. Kind of sucked to lose that. I suppose I will do a full uninstall of my drivers and start over to see if it helps.
